On 29th and 30th November 2017 I assisted a colleague in carrying out condition surveys on a feeder container ship and a Suezmax tanker at Liverpool and Tranmere respectively. Great to be back on board ship again, even if the ships were tied up and so not actually at sea, and great to see well run ships with competent and efficient crews.
I presented a paper on the Legal Implications of Autonomous Ships at the Nautical Institute's Seminar titled "Master of an Autonomous Ship", held at Liverpool on 20th October 2017. Other aspects of the subject were covered by speakers from Rolls Royce, Assuranceforeningen Skuld, Brookes Bell and the Nautical Institute itself.
An edited version of my talk appears in the December edition of the Nautical Institute's monthly magazine, "Seaways".
